Our students are busy preparing for the 2017 Musician’s Showcase event on January 28th, 2017.
Again, 100% of the proceeds will go to benefit p:ear’s music program because the drums and other gear that our students and their generous friends and family were able to give p:ear have been a huge hit! (sorry for that unintentional Dad pun)
It isn’t too late to get involved!
Send any inquiries or questions to email@example.com. More info to come.

Today we listened to a little drum and bass while driving the sparkling new Pearl 5 piece drumset to P:ear’s youth. Thanks to all our talented and dedicated students who performed at the last musician showcase, we were able to raise funds for P:ear’s youth to replace their destroyed drumset, strings, picks and other essentials for the music program. Our next musician showcase is rapidly approaching in January!
P:ear provides unconditional support to homeless youth in Portland whose needs range from needing lunch, to help studying for their GED or applying to college. P:ear provides paints, instruments, and volunteers who creatively mentor and listen so that homeless youth can overcome the odds. We love supporting p:ear’s First Thursday gallery events downtown in the Pearl District where you can purchase original artwork from that month’s featured professional artist or curated artwork made my youth at P:ear.
When you decide to take home a piece, 10% of purchase goes to P:ear for overhead costs, the other 90% goes to the youth who created your purchased artwork.

Yes, “Guitar” is in our name, but as we move into our fourth year, we have serendipitously expanded to include a tight-knit community of other formally trained musicians including vocal coaches and piano instructors.
Take advantage of our Back to School promotion to…
…improve your voice for Friday night karaoke or tell your bandmates that you already have a vocalist!
…learn to play songs in time for the holidays this year.
…want to finally write that rock opera you’ve had floating around in your head for years?
Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to set up a free intro or to find out more about voice lessons in opera, pop, rock, musical theater, jazz and piano lessons ranging from pop, jazz, classical to composition, music theory and improvisation.
As always with us, of course there is more, but we don’t want to bore you with a long list of lesson packages, programs, workshops and upcoming events and contests.

Yesterday’s showcase was fantastic! Our very talented and incredibly dedicated students performed many original pieces to help raise money for p:ear (an amazing education, art, recreation and music program serving homeless youth). Follow p:ear onFacebook or check out their website to find out more about the many ways that you can support the homeless youth of Portland as a volunteer, donor and more!
If you missed yesterday or are interested in performing at our next showcase in January, we are gearing up for some very exciting new things on the horizon!
Thank you also to Muse Art + Design for donating a gift certificate for yesterday’s raffle. They are by far our favourite art supply store because of their knowledgeable and friendly staff and their outstanding inventory that ranges from high quality spray paints to oils.

Portland Guitar Academy is pleased to welcome Emily Haswell as the newest addition to our team of highly dedicated and skilled instructors. Emily is an accomplished, professional pianist and classical singer who hails from the Big Island of Hawaii. Emily recently moved to Portland, Oregon to pursue her music career and to live closer to her brother.
Born in Canberra, Australia and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, Emily began studying piano at age 6 and developed an interest in jazz while in high school. Emily won the outstanding Hilo musicianship award several years in a row and was a finalist in the Hamakua Music Festival. Emily studied classical voice and piano at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and won the morning music competition with my interpretations of Rossini’s La Regata Veneziana and Chausson’s Le Temp des Lilas.
Emily is an experienced performer who was employed by Saint Mark’s Cathedral as alto section leader, and later with Saint Andrew’s Cathedral as a soprano choral scholar as well as the Honolulu Symphony Chorus as their soprano choral artist. Emily also sang with Colla Voce (a premiere treble ensemble specializing in Hawaiian choral music).
As a teacher, Emily emphasizes well-rounded musicianship, working equally on musicality and expressiveness, technique, theory, and ear-training. Emily performs and teaches professionally and is excited to work with students at Portland Guitar Academy.

We at Portland Guitar Academy are thrilled to see that our passion for providing revolutionary guitar and bass instruction is getting praised within the community.
When you speak with our students, it is easy to see why inquiring students on Thumbtack.com are over 10 times more likely to hire Portland Guitar Academy for their instruction than any other instructor in the area. Here’s what some of our students are saying on Thumbtack.com:
I feel so incredibly happy to have found such a great teacher. Geoffrey has helped me advance and grow as a guitarist, allowing me to feel more confident in my abilities such as song writing, individual style and guitar technique. Geoffery has a unique, wonderful teaching style. I am pleased with my progress and I am very excited about my future in music.
Thank you Geoffery!!! – Heather T.
Geoffrey has helped me greatly expand my understanding of music theory. He has been able to answer every one of my questions about music theory, and has also helped me apply this knowledge to my playing and songwriting, deepening my understanding of guitar and music as a whole. In addition to that, he’s helped me identify and correct technical issues with my playing. He has an excellent understanding of the technical aspects of playing guitar and he’s given me the tools to identify technical problems with my own playing.
The thing I appreciate most about lessons with Geoffrey is that he tailors the lessons to what I want to learn. If I want to focus on rhythm, he shares lots of techniques, ideas, and tips that help with my rhythm playing. If I want to learn lead guitar, he can do the same for that. And so on for virtually every guitar-related topic I can think of. – Trevor B.
